Mary Ann Hitchcock
Mary Ann Hitchcock was the youngest daughter of Alured C. Hitchcock and Sarah Warner Stevens. She was born on 17 June 1824 in Vergennes, Vermont. Mary Ann lived an adventurous life moving from her family home in Connecticut to what is now Detroit Michigan and then on to Galesburg Colony in Illinois. There she met and married a young preacher David M. Pinkerton in 1845. From then on Mary Ann lived the life of a preacher’s wife. They had eight children, two of whom drowned in the Iowa River. That was a devastating day indeed. However, the family continued to thrive. Mary Ann lived to the age of 84. She died in 1908 in the home of her eldest child, Mary Elizabeth Pinkerton, in Northfield, Minnesota.
