Revolutionary War Monument
The Revolutionary War Monument erected by the Royal Oak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Smyth County, Virginia was built in 1996. Names of soldiers who fought for our freedom against the British Empire decorate the sides of the memorial topped by an eagle.
The Battle of Kings Mountain
In the fall of 1780, for the first-time colonists fought colonists. British general Charles Lord Cornwallis sent colonial tory Major Patrick Ferguson to North Carolina to recruit loyalist militia and to protect Cornwallis’s left flank as the General moved his forces through the Carolinas.
