Listen to Genealogist Journal Podcast, Episode 020, to learn more about early Canadian history.

This map of New France clearly shows the territory name of Canada.

This map from the early 1530s is labeled as New France and does not have the name Canada labeled anywhere.

This map was created by Samuel de Champlain during his explorations of the Canadian coastline and interior in 1612.

While this is not an early map of Canada, this map shows the First Nations of the area.
